Irvine Chinese School
Welcome to SCCCA/Irvine Chinese School, the largest Chinese school in Southern California. Founded in Irvine in 1976, ICS has a long tradition of excellence and is a leader in its field.
For over 40 years, ICS has helped thousands of children and their families to learn and preserve Chinese language and culture. From an enrollment of fewer than 40 students in 1976, ICS now enrolls over 1,200 students in Kindergarten through 12th Grade in Mandarin Chinese language program.
Irvine Chinese School is currently accepting enrollment for 2017-2018 school year. Enrollment is open for students ranging from the ages of five to eighteen (Kindergarten to High School). The students are carefully placed into one of the levels depending on their Chinese ability.
The course we offer includes instructions in phonetics, listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, conversation, customs, and/or other aspects of Chinese culture. We offer difference tracks of Chinese class to fit the individual student’s need: Traditional Zhuyin Chinese, Simplified Hanyu Chinese, Chinese as Second Language (CSL) , and High School Chinese. There are five different sessions to cater your schedule: Wednesday afternoon, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon.
For all grades, a language course is required. Different textbooks are used for each track. In addition, we offer a variety of elective classes, like Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, Kung Fu, Folk Dance, Chinese chess, crafts, cartoon, performing arts, and sports for 3rd Grade and above on Sunday’s Heritage tracks. ICS also offers a program designed for high school students that allow them to earn five credits each semester for their home high school.
Every year, Irvine Chinese School not only provides our students with a great learning environment and excellent learning resources, but also fun and culturally-enriched activities, such as the Chinese New Year Celebration that our students enjoy every year. We hope our creative activities can enhance our students’ learning experiences and also make their learning fun as well. As always, your child’s learning and success is our priority. Thank you for your support!
